Fingers and partial hands

What a finger or partial hand prosthesis is

In short

A finger prosthesis is a silicone sleeve shaped and coloured like a real finger. It slips over what remains of the finger and holds on by suction and a snug fit, so there are no straps.

A partial hand prosthesis replaces several fingers or part of the palm, either as one silicone piece or as a mechanical device that lets you grip. Single fingers start from Rs 25,000 and partial hands from about Rs 150,000.

  • Light tasksTyping, holding paper, steadying things.

Daily life

Living with silicone fingers

Simple care keeps the fit secure and the colour true.

Clean and dry

Wash daily with mild soap, dry inside and out, and keep the skin underneath clean.

Wudu

Silicone can be washed, but take the finger off now and then so the skin can breathe.

Avoid stains

Newsprint, ink and some fabrics stain silicone; keep a spare if you can.

Check the fit

If the finger starts slipping, the stump may have changed; we can adjust or remake it.

See your doctor first if

  • The finger or hand wound is open or weeping
  • There is redness, heat or swelling
  • You have a fever or feel unwell
  • The stump is very tender or numb
  • Skin grafts on the hand are still fragile

Fingers heal quickly, but the skin must be strong before a silicone piece rubs against it.

How much does an artificial finger cost in Pakistan?

A single custom silicone finger starts from Rs 25,000 and usually costs up to about Rs 80,000 depending on detail. Several fingers or a thumb cost Rs 60,000 to 200,000.

How does a silicone finger stay on?

By a snug fit and gentle suction over the remaining finger. Some people add a ring to hold it more securely.

Can I bend a silicone finger?

It flexes a little but does not bend on its own. Mechanical finger devices can bend when you move your knuckles.

How long does it take to make?

Usually two to four weeks, including a colour-check visit in daylight.

Will people notice a silicone finger?

A well-coloured custom finger is hard to spot at a normal distance, especially with natural nails.

What if I lost several fingers?

We can make joined fingers or a partial hand, or a mechanical device if you need grip. The assessment tells us which.
